Tom Jonard's Science Literacy Survey and Anecdote Page
Survey's
Here are some surveys that report the Science Illiteracy problem:
- The National Science Board's Science and Engineering Indicators 2002 The report is available from this site on CDROM free of charge. Chapter 7, Science and Technology: Public Attitudes and Public Understand are especially relevant.
- New Poll Points to Increase in Paranormal Belief, Matt Nisbet, Committee for the Scientific Investigation of the Paranormal Online
- Researchers Alarmed By Reports Of Public's Lack Of Scientific Knowledge, The Scientist website, Jun. 27, 1994
Anecdotes
Anecdotal information about science illiteracy is of course subject to a higher level of criticism than survey's. Anecdotes really don't prove anything. Everybody makes mistakes. And they are fun. But if true the measure they provide of the seriousness of the problem is how widely misinformation is spread or accepted.
